Commemorative Medal for Returned Prisoners of War 1914-1919
An original German commemorative medal awarded to soldiers who returned home after captivity following the First World War. The obverse bears the inscription:
"Dem glücklich heimgekehrten Kriegsgefangenen zur bleibenden Erinnerung 1917–1919"
("To the happily returned prisoner of war, as a lasting remembrance, 1917–1919").
The reverse depicts a returning soldier and carries the motto:
"In der Heimat gibt's ein Wiedersehen"
("At home, there is a reunion").
A meaningful historical piece commemorating the return of German POWs after the Great War. The medal remains in very good condition with an attractive aged patina and a well-preserved suspension loop, making it an excellent addition to any WWI German militaria collection.
