Soviet RKKA M1936 Backpack from Sabotage Container
Rare Soviet RKKA Model 1936 (M1936) backpack, originating from the contents of a WWII sabotage container containing Soviet, British and German equipment and supplies.
The backpack is constructed from heavy canvas with leather shoulder straps, leather reinforcement and metal fittings. Personal initials or identification markings applied by the original user are still visible on the reverse side.
Of particular interest is the internal frame. The frame was deliberately sawn into two sections in order to fit the backpack inside the sabotage container. The cut sections remain clearly visible and provide an unusual direct connection between the backpack and the way the container was originally packed.
The backpack remains in untouched, used condition with considerable age and service wear. There are tears and damaged areas to the fabric, wear to the leather components and general staining, but the principal construction and many original fittings remain present.
The M1936 RKKA backpack is a scarce piece of pre-war Soviet field equipment in its own right, while the documented association with the sabotage container and the deliberately modified frame make this example particularly unusual.
Suitable for a militaria collection or display.
